Eiktyr Giga Site

The best European site for green industries

All critical resources in place

The area is located in the middle of an established circular industrial cluster with 150 years of experience, highly skilled labor, abundant access to affordable energy, and a port offering great expansion opportunities.

  • Other places in Norway also offer solid power supply and vacant areas. However, few areas have the same necessary combination of access to renewable energy, stable prices, technological competence, and labor.

With only 40 minutes to one of Norway's largest cities, the tech capital Trondheim, the business area in Orkdal stands out with its access to labor. According to Statistics Norway, Trondheim is a city in strong growth, in percentage terms more than all other Norwegian cities. The larger Trondheim region and Orkland municipality are seeing a net population increase.

The Trondheim region currently has 300,000 inhabitants and is at the forefront of the country regarding tech careers. NTNU is the nation's largest technical university and is headquartered in Trondheim. NTNU is responsible for higher technical education in Norway. Significant research and business in technology, climate and sustainability, energy, oceans, and health spring from the NTNU environment.

  • Good access to power is crucial for establishing new, green industries in Norway. Recently, several industrial projects in Norway have been put on hold, and possible jobs have been lost due to a lack of access to power. It has become more apparent how important it is for new industrial areas to combine access to power, a gentle development that safeguards biodiversity, and an attractive geographical location for a highly skilled workforce.

In contrast to other areas in the nation where industrial projects are on hold indefinitely due to power problems, it will soon be possible to "pop the plug straight into the wall." This is about both power and access to the grid. There are extensive industrial plans in southern Norway waiting for grid access, but at the same time, power prices are not as competitive as many have hoped. Central Norway has a different situation. As a result of the extensive development of both power and the grid, the area is now very competitive from a European perspective.

The planning area itself is uniquely located between two sizeable central grid lines and transformation points, which means there's no need to expand new transmission capacity through the central grid. What is needed is smaller investments in the regional grid. In addition, this location is close to both hydropower and already developed wind power projects. Any new renewable projects to come will only further increase this location's benefits.

  • The new green industries need the prerequisites to work circularly from day one. This was why Valinor started developing the new business area just outside Orkanger.

  • Compared to other giga sites internationally, our site is practically on the harbor. The port of Trondheim has areas and plans ready for development in an accessible and ice-free port, which is already used for international shipping.

  • Orkland has a long history as an industrial society with a solid workforce, established industrial culture, and essential skills and experience. Many existing companies in Orkland are at full speed into the green shift. They will be able to both collaborate with and deliver to the new green industrial companies believed to come.
